Bonam is alum of the Institute for Civic Leadership, Maine, and he currently serves on the Board of Directors (since 2004). The Institute
for Civic Leadership enhances Greater Portland's civic capacity by training and supporting a network of skilled leaders, building
cross-sector relationships and providing ongoing resources and life-long learning opportunities in collaboration and facilitative
leadership. He is the Chair of the Recruitment Committee for the Institute.
He also serves on the Board of Directors for "Boys to Men," a non-profit that is designed to celebrate the richness and explore the
challenges of being a boy in today’s society by facilitating the healthy involvement of adult males in boys’ lives in Maine
(Since October 2002). He is a member of the Fundraising Committee.
Bonam hosts the weekly talk-radio show “Culture Matters” on Greater Portland’s Community Radio Station (WMPG 90.9 &
104.1) every Tuesday night from 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Culture Matters highlights culture in every form from across the world and examines the
different cultures within each home! Culture Matters takes a close look at how culture brings together or segregates, and it engages you in
a discussion, with a different guest each week, that can be eye-opening, amusing and/or even provocative! (Since February 2001)
Bonam has served as the President of the Board of Directors for Community Television Network, the Greater Portland Community Television
Station in Maine (2002-2006). He is the only President in the history of the organization who had been asked to serve two consecutive terms.
Community Television Network provides high quality, locally produced arts, education, health care, public affairs and other community
programming to people in the CTN viewing area; and, to provide nonprofit members direct access to our community through CTN.
Bonam has served on the Board of Directors for WMPG, the Greater Portland Community Radio in Maine, USA (March 2002 - February 2005)
He serves on the steering committee for the World AIDS Day committee currently being called the Southern Maine HIV Collaborative in
Portland, Maine (Since October 2001).
He volunteered his services to the Hassle Free Men's Sexual Health Clinic (A project funded by the AIDS Committee of Toronto) Toronto,
Canada. It is a community-based sexual health clinic (with core funding by the Toronto Public Health Division) providing medical and
counseling services in all areas of sexual health. It is the largest anonymous HIV test site in Canada, and has been one of the
country’s busiest sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinics. I was actively involved with the clinic’s Hepatitis/Immunization
project, Outreach initiative and with Counseling and testing. (1998 – 1999)
He volunteered my services to the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (A project funded by the AIDS Committee of Toronto) Toronto,
Canada. The Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention is a charitable, non-profit, community based organization committed to the prevention
of the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and to promoting the health of South Asians that may be at risk for and/or are infected
with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Services include preventative education, support to South Asians infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS,
outreach, and advocacy. He was involved with developing Outreach Strategies (including educational materials) and other linguistically and
culturally appropriate education materials (1998 – 1999)
